Oh, the weather.........

Yesterday the sun was shining and it was warm outside...........20ish and today we got some freezing rain and as of right now it's a blizzard outside.
The visibility went from miles to less than a 1/4 of a mile in a matter of minutes.

I haven't been hooking but working on the electronic side of things.  Our website is currently getting an update.  Check us out in a few days.

For those of you that have sunshine..............Enjoy!

We are counting the days till Spring.
I have already vowed that I wouldn't complain about mowing.  :)

Long Winter

I don't know about all of you but since I posted last we have had snow, winds, extreme cold and no school days.
It has been very hard to find a routine at our house.  Sam hasn't had a full week of school since BEFORE Christmas.  We just can't seem to find our groove.
I just want to hide under my electric blanket and come out when it's Spring. :)

I have been looking at my projects and walking right on by.
Do you ever have that issue?
 Perhaps it's just me?

Did some work at the shop today and took some pictures at Mom's looking for a little inspiration.
Do they inspire you?

Happy Friday everyone.
May your day be filled with inspiration and warmth.

A LITTLE of this and a LOT of that

It would seem over the last week that we have had a LOT of this about every other day.
Seems like it keeps coming our direction.  I believe the kids had about 2-3 days of school last week.

The wind blew like a madman!

Lots of this went on........

A little of this..........Finished. Yeah.

Somewhere in the middle of all this I picked up Drew so he could begin his next phase of training.

Grilling outside the other night I managed to sneak this picture of the beautiful sunset..........I also managed to burn the brats I was grilling..........oops.

Don't know about you but I'm hoping for this REALLY soon. :)

Have a great day!

Winter is here!

Well, we were expecting snow but not the wind.  School started out 2 hours late and now is closed for the day.
We are suppose to have a basketball game tonight so we shall see what the school decides.

If you were thinking of coming to the shop today please DO NOT!
We have a NO TRAVEL  warning for our county.

As I am typing this post I am nestled under my electric throw that my husband gave me 2 Christmas's ago.  :)

Today will be spent wrapping a rug and maybe a little hooking.

Stay warm and happy hooking.

What's on your frame?

I don't know about you but as the new year begins I always like to get some projects finished up and off of my frame.  There is no better satisfaction than FINISHING  a project. :)

Last night I organized my hooking area especially my tray that holds the wool strips that I'm using.

Can you see my little red owl timer?
That's so I do at least 30 minutes every day.
Some days it's more and some days it will be less.

Having everything organized and ready to go makes it very easy to sit down……..even if it is just for a few minutes while you catch the news.

This rug was suppose to be all completed by now.  It's Drew's graduation rug.  My goal was to have it all completed by the time he finished graduation.  :)

Well, Friday Drew graduates from his Tech School Training and will begin on the job training for 30 days in Sioux City, Iowa.

This is easy hooking for the most part as I am using a #9 cut.  I hooked last night and the right side is almost done.

I'm going to post the progress on a regular basis so I hold myself accountable.  :)

What's on your frame today?

Happy Hooking!

New Yarn

We have had several customers ask us to carry some of the Ryegarn yarn.

Rauma Ryegarn is a Norweign Rug Yarn that works perfect for wrapping a rug.
The yarn is 2 ply highly twisted 100% wool and contains 80 yards in each skein.

At first I wasn't a real big fan of the yarn but it has definitely grown on me.  I am wrapping a rug with it as we speak and have another one ready to go.

Now, here is the deal.  I ordered this yarn without a color card.  When I opened the box of yarn I was a little surprised by some of the colors……..lesson learned. :)  (Think I looked at the wrong number when I ordered).

I have spent the last hour trying very hard to "capture" the color correctly and I failed in a big way.  I have ordered a book to help me take pictures and am waiting on a new lens that I hope will help me with this issue……….and a few more………related to photography that is. ;)

With hesitation here are the colors.  I will put the numbers with the yarns so incase you do have a color card you can see the actual number.

1164 (eggplant)
526 (purple raspberry)

501 (Natural)
524 (Cherry Red)

533 (Dark Brown)
575 (Antique Black)
536 (Black)

3356 (Light Blue)
3565 (Dark Teal)
3064 (Turquoise)

There they are.  I apologize for the colors.  I'm going to see if I can get a friend to help me with the colors once her schedule settles down a bit.

If you have questions please let us know.

Skeins are $16.00 ea. and contain 80 yds. enough to wrap 2-10x20 in rugs

I is for I OWE YOU a Christmas gift

As many of you know from past years our family does a different letter of the alphabet every year for Christmas.

This year was the letter I.

I had drawn mom's name and I simply ran out of time.  I debated about just buying a gift but that really isn't much fun.

I had to be very creative with my gift so I wouldn't look totally lame. :)

I spent a few days mulling it all over in my head and decided I wasn't going to stress myself out over a Christmas gift and it was JUST mom after all. ;)

I ended up giving her the capital letter "I" and on the back of it I wrote "owe you". Yep, mom got an I OWE YOU as her Christmas gift.

I had done this one other time when I was in high school.  I bought flannel to make her p.j.'s and wrapped up the flannel and put it under the tree BUT never did make the p.j.'s.  Ooops.

I was very determined not to let that happen again as mom has never let me forget that.

Here is mom's gift.  I gave it to her this morning, wrapped and all.

Meet Iggy.
Iggy is made totally from scraps.

I have made a few rugs lately using my leftovers and I keep waiting for the basket to get smaller but the worms just seem to be multiplying!!

I bought this pattern from Briarwood Folk Art awhile back and was waiting for the opportune time to put it to use.

It is meant just for scraps.  I love that about the rug.  Using up what you have and making it work……regardless.

Merry Christmas Mom.  I no longer owe you. :)

Another busy week

It's been some very busy days for me.  Drew left on January 2 to head back to Wichita, Tx to finish up Tech School.  He will graduate this week and then begin on the job training in Sioux City, Iowa.

January 4, I headed back up to the cities to take Jenny to the airport.  She is back safe and sound in sunny Pensacola.

January 5 we had the cold weather arrive at our door.
This picture I took on the way home on Sunday afternoon.
At times it was total whiteout conditions.

School was canceled for today due to extreme temperatures and wind chills.

We should have been home all snuggled in today but Natalie had a reception we needed to go to in Storm Lake, Iowa, a 3 hour drive.  We headed out at 5 a.m. this morning.  The temperature was -18 degrees with the wind chills being -50.  Not a good day to be on the road.

Natalie along with one other BVU student had a "white coat" ceremony today.  They were selected to be part of a 3 week internship with rural hospitals.  She received her coat and then began her internship at a local clinic.  Imagine she will have lots of interesting experiences ahead of her.

We are very proud of her!  Congratulations Natalie!

As I write this post we will not be having school again tomorrow due to continued extreme weather conditions.
 How many days till Spring?
 I'm ready! :)
