WHEW

I am sure some of you have noticed that my blog posts have been non-existent for sometime now.

Our high school has a musical every 2 years and this was the year.  The chorus put on The Sound of Music and I was asked to be in charge of the costumes.

I never realized how many costume changes that there were until I started looking into it.  Both Drew and Sam had parts in the musical.  Drew was Captain and Sam was Fredrick (second child from the left)

They have been practicing since the first of September.  This past Friday, Saturday and Sunday were the actual performances.

The boys have recovered much more quickly than I have. :)

I hope to finish washing up the costumes and get them put away this week.

Needless to say many things got put on the back burner while I was sewing costumes. 

 My dust bunnies have grown like leaps and bounds over the past couple of months.

I am hoping that life will settle down a bit. 

 It has been a really busy fall for me.  

Chorus wreaths get distributed next Tuesday (all 200 of them) and then I can officially say my parental duties as a chorus parent are finished for the year.......until we chaperon the chorus trip to NYC! (sigh)

Construction has begin

Just a couple of days ago the dirt began to fly...................so to speak.

Before I could get a picture the hole was dug and now there is cement in the "new" garage.

I took these two photos from the road as the workers were busy and I didn't want to be in the way!

I heard one of them say, "It must be KIMT"  (the local news station), no it's just me taking pictures for the blog..............how disappointing for them. :)

If you know what you are looking at you will see that the garage is a 2-holer.

Now, it sits for the rest of the winter. 

 Mom should be able to use this time to figure out what she is going to do with the unexpected bump out!  

If any of you have gone through construction you know that things don't always go as planned.  Yes, that was the case in this situation as well.

The Hills Are Alive

Yes, the hills are alive..................... not with singing................. but the humming of the serger and sewing machine!

November 9,10 and 11 the Osage High School Chorus will be presenting.........The Sound of Music.

I was put in charge of the costumes.  It has been quite a chore trying to find enough yardage to make 7 costumes from the same fabric.

I have been in too many Walmarts and JoAnn Fabrics to count.............and I need to go again.

The top fabric is for the bedroom scene and the bottom 2 bolts is the "UGLY" drape fabric.

As of today the pajamas are ready for hemming and I have 2 more skirts to assemble and then it's on to the boys outfits.  I saved the easiest for last................not so much.

30 nuns are making up the chorus.  Yes, that means 30 nun costumes.  We are renting black chorus gowns and someone else is making the habits...................whew!

What fun.  I will have relief when everyone has a costume!!

I have both boys in the musical so thought that it was only fair that I help too.  

You know, sewing is a lost art!!

As part of the Varsity Cross Country team it is tradition to shave your head before the district meet.  So, after the spaghetti meal...........razors start buzzing.

This is Sam and he is my youngest.  He ran varsity this year.  He thought the weather was a tad cooler the next morning.  :)  

I guess the "shaving" must have worked as the team won 2nd at districts and are now able to run in the State Cross Country Meet.

This Saturday we will be adorned in our "Green Devil" apparel and headed out to Fort Dodge, Iowa to watch the boys run.  

Our Shop will be CLOSED so the family can cheer them on.  

They have worked so hard this year.  It is fun to watch them improve as the season moves along.  Saturday should bring their favorite running weather..............cold and rainy!!

Baa Baa Boonville Hook-In

Last week we were honored to be venders at a wonderful hook-in located in Boonville, Missouri.

This year we were in the basement of a church which gave us all much more room.  Booth set up is on Friday evening which is always a plus.

Everyone who registered received a "shopping" bag with this great logo on it.

New wools

New wools arrived in the shop a couple of weeks ago.  Things have been so busy I haven't had much time to get them on the blog yet.  

Above you will see that we re-stocked the wool stripe.  I LOVE  this wool.  Next is a old gold plaid that is yummy too.  Last but not least is a good old green.

Another great reversible brown.  Dark on one side and camel color on the other.  Haven't had a chance to hook with it but can't wait to get started.

Off white/oatmeals are always great for an As-Is or an over-dyed.

Hope your days are filled with enjoying the wonderful outdoors.  The warmer temps are surely spoiling us here in Iowa.

A Wonderful Day

The Bittersweet Sister Club.  It's a very long story how these ladies all found one another but the bond of hand work has brought them together in Osage, Iowa.

From Chicago, Atlanta, Maine, North Dakota and Mason City, Iowa this group of ladies landed in Osage for 5 fun filled days.  

They rented the fabulous facilities of  The Stitchery Nook retreat center.  

Our dear friend Nicki provided an itinerary with the daily activities.

Monday was Ewe and Eye day!!  The ladies arrived at 8:10 a.m. for coffee and rolls.  Mom and I got to see all the wonderful projects that they had already completed as well as the ones that they were working on.  We did lots of laughing as we shared the love of the needle arts.

Stillwater Hook-In

Ever have those days where the FURTHER you want to go the FARTHER behind you get?  

Mine seem to be turning into weeks instead of days.  (I will explain why later).

A couple of weeks ago we vended at a show called Autumn Valley Hook-In.  

These are just a couple of shots as to what our booth looked like.

The day was great and full of meeting good friends again.

Some Eye Candy

We always love to see what customers have hooked.  

These rugs were in the shop the same day but hooked by 2 different ladies.

Above is a rug hooked by Charlie.  She was passing through on her way to visit her grandchildren and stopped for a quick visit.

Charlie said this came from a book.  I know that Potted Pear put one in RHM several years back.  I am not sure if this is it or not.

The colors were great and so appropriate for this time of the year.

This rug is called "Simple Sampler" and is one of our rugs.  Turby hooked this rug using all of her leftover noodles!

Turby is always bashful when it comes to showing her rugs.  She has done some wonderful creating and she never gives herself credit!

Where does one start?

Life has certainly been busy for us at the shop.  I know that I have fallen off the blog wagon and several of you have let me know that! :)  Believe me today is the first time that I have had an opportunity to even think about blogging.

I was wondering where to start as so much has happened since my last post.

I thought it was ONLY appropriate to start with this picture.  I mean, really, as a child how often do you REALLY get to embarrass your mother? :)

A few months back my son decided he couldn't live without a motorcycle.  It's cheaper to drive he kept telling me.  I have heard it all!!  The rule is helmet and long pants (obviously not this particular time).

Drew was too afraid to ask Grandma if she wanted a ride (I think he knew she would say yes)!  Down the road they went.  

Notice Drew is wearing a DARK helmet..................no one knows it's him that way!!

A short trip down to Uncle Jeff's for a birthday party and Grandma's day was made!

  

I on the other hand haven't been given a ride yet.

  I don't know what would be more embarrassing...........giving you grandmother a ride or your own mother.  

I think I know the answer to that one. :)

I was sitting on Mom's porch the other day (which I have done many times before) and suddenly noticed this.  I was almost afraid to say anything out loud for fear someone (mother) would laugh at me.  Finally, I said, "Does that look like an owl to you?"

Mom laughed..........not at me for once!  She saw the same thing.

Kinda weird how mother nature does that to you sometimes? 

 Yes, it is a tree 4 feet from the patio.

Nothing like being watched 24/7.  :)

Warsaw Hook-In

We just recently returned from a Hook-In in Warsaw, Missouri.  I thought I would share a few pictures.

Here we are setting up our booth.  We are allowed to set-up the night before which is wonderful!!

I took some pictures of the rug show that was held in the basement of this old building.  It was difficult to take pictures as there was LOTS of light coming in from outside.
