A very emotional day..........

Today we took a 2 1/2 hour drive to Des Moines, Iowa to drop our 18 year old son off at the airport for basic military training in San Antonio, Texas.

We have known  the date for several months now but somehow it arrived all to quickly. I have a new appreciation for those mothers who have sent their sons off to deployment. I can't even begin to imagine what that must feel like.

We said our tearful good-byes, hugged forever and are counting the days until we see him again. 8 weeks........it seems like eternity but I'm sure it will go by quickly.

Drew has such a passion for serving our country that I know in my heart he is in the right place. We love him and are very proud of the commitment he is making.

See you in 8 weeks Drew.

  1. Oh, I remember those days with my son. On one hand it's hard to let go, but on the other you are so proud of them. I'll be thinking of you. I appreciate your son's willingness to serve his country.

  2. You must be very proud parents! He sounds like a wonderful man; and individual who is willing to serve our country and help others. The world needs more caring people like that. Be proud, you raised a great son!! And with that being said; of course you are going to miss him. He will continue to grow and mature and when he returns, you and Dave will look at each other and say.."Wow, we did good, didn't we?" All of your kids are great; and you are very blessed! Hugs to you and Dave!
